Bye bye to the traditional Sherbet Fountain. (18/05/2009 @ 13:38:33)
We've been disappointed to learn that our best selling retro sweet, the Sherbet Fountain is changing. It will no longer be in a paper tube with the liquorice stick poking out the top. It's being replaced by a plastic tube which is resealable and claims to be more hygenic. The Sherbet Fountain still tastes as good as ever but w're not sure they will be quite the same, without the paper tube, but what do you think? Email us to let us know!New Postage Costs (15/01/2007 @ 18:54:32)
Customers in the UK can now order up to 4kg of sweets and only be charged £4.95 for P & P.
A New Look For Many Of The Old Favourites At Bah Humbugs (05/08/2009 @ 09:21:12)
Many of the sweets we sell have recently been re-branded under the new name of Taveners Proper Sweets. These include all the Sharp's Toffees, Blackcurrant & Liquorice, Chocolate Limes, Kola Cubes & Sweet Peanuts. Also, the Barratt sweets now come under this banner such as Sherbet Fountains , Anglo Bubbly, Refreshers, & Dip Dabs. All of these sweets now contain only Natural Colours and Flavourings too. Don't worry though, they all taste as good as ever!
Do You Remember.......? (05/01/2007 @ 18:37:39)
"Do you remember......" the most popular question we get asked! We try to stock as many of the sweets you remember from your childhood, but there are some that just aren't being made anymore. Here are some of them.
Spangles - a popular square fruit boiled sweet from the 1960's made by Mars. They did begin to re-make them in the early 1990's but demand was not strong enough to ensure their survival.
Jap Deserts - a candy covered coconut cube-sized sweet. Similar to those ones found in Dolly Mixture, but these used to be available to buy on their own. No longer being made today. Apparently coconut used to be known as Jap?
Pacers - a particlar favourite of ours. A chewy spearmint flavoured mint with three green stripes running through each sweet. They used to come in square green packets particularly popular in the eighties, but died a death at the start of the ninetys so we believe. Spearmint flavoured Mojo's are a good substitute though!
Texan Bars - a chewy nougat bar covered in milk chocolate. This bar made by Nestle came back into circulation at the beginning of 2006 as a limited edition bar, but unfortunately it remained just a limited edition, and we can't get any more!
Cremola Foam - this was a fizzy powder that you added to water to make a fizzy drink. Originally made by Nestle, it died out sometime in the 80's we believe. Apparently there is a similar product in Germany, but we are as yet to try it.
Is there a particular sweet that you can't find? Email us and we will do our best to look for it for you.
